LOVE IS OVERATED

This way my first ever solo piece. I like to think of it as the first piece without training wheels, from a concept I developed on my own. 

It was actually inspired by my time in London.On my route home, the streets were littered with those classic bright red phone booths and filled with adult call cards. I would collect them and hang them in my room cause I thought they were cool (looking back that was super dusty!). These were the inspiration of many of the cutouts you see across my works.

I found London similar to what I’d imagine the adult industry like. Beautiful on the outside, but dark and dangerous the more you searched behind the curtain. You learnt to stay in your lane as there was no time to play hero. You’d see someone being harassed broad daylight and the plan ALWAYS was to avoid eye contact and walk around the affair to avoid potentially being stabbed - probably with a zombie knife - google it. 

The skulls resemble the pills you could buy in London for a tenna. Dropped off to your house in 30 mins, these things would have your jaw hitting home runs out of the Dodgers Stadium. The beautiful thing about Ecstasy is that you would love everything and everyone - perfect time to have a deep and meaningful. 

The title of the piece is to suggest that you can buy ‘love’, whether that is paid for transactional human connection or via a compound of stimulants (stimulants that echo the feeling), to ‘love’ life. Who needs a real connection when you can mimic one on command? Far less hassle and you can come and go as you please.
